Marlene and Athanasios’ wedding at St Nectarios in Roslindale
I love all kinds of weddings, from the intimate backyard ceremonies to lavish affairs at big hotels, from quiet celebration with family, to wild parties with dancing and jumping…and this year I’ve had them all! And with all of the weddings that I have been a part of, I have learned one thing: No one can throw a wedding like a big Greek family can!
Marlene and Anathasios’ (Saki to his friends), wedding day started at home with family. I began the day with Marlene at her home in Medford, while my cohort for the day, the super talented Stacey Doyle, met Saki at his family home. While the bride and groom were getting ready, we were capturing all of the fun. Once Marlene and her bridesmaids were dressed we took a few photos around the house, finding a really cool couch from the50’s in the back hall, and an old red velvet chair which we took out into the back yard for photos.
Then it was off to the church. St. Nectarios is a beautiful church with all of the walls and ceilings festooned with paintings depicting stories from the Bible. Against this backdrop, Marlene and Saki completed all of the ceremonies associated with a traditional Greek wedding, and with shouts of congratulations accompanied by thrown rice and rose petals they made their way to the waiting limousine.
Picture time, found us at the Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon, MA, where the staff was waiting with a golf cart to take us all out to a beautiful spot on the course for photos. After a few photos with Marlene, Saki, and the wedding party, we headed back inside for the introductions. Once all of the wedding party was introduced , the lights dimmed and a video presentation started. It seems that while we were out taking photos, the team from Black Tie Video was putting together a movie from the footage they had captured earlier in the day. There was not a dry eye in the house when the video came to an end and Marlene and Saki were introduced in. From there the night was a blur of dancing and celebration where the modern and the traditional melded together for the perfect evening.
