It was a beautifully warm, sunny afternoon for Grafton High School student Olivia’s Senior Portrait session in Grafton MA, and we had a blast exploring our hometown and taking advantage of all of the golden hour goodness!

Olivia had an idea that she would like a few photos with her in the high grass, and suggested we try Tufts.  I loved the idea!  I’ve done a few shoots at tufts and have spent a bit of time exploring the property.  Before it was a vetinary college, it was a mental institution a century ago, and there are remnants of the old hospital that haven’t been touched since it closed down.  Driving to Tufts, we noticed a really cool field on the side of the road full of tufty milkweed, and made a not to return when the sun went down a bit.

At Tufts we started at the old cement grandstand for the athletic field, then headed up the the crumbly old hospital building.  The shady light and disrepaired river rock hospital building provided an amazing backdrop for Olivia’s first outfit, and she was ready for a costume change by the time we moved on.  Next we headed to the iconic red barn, where we found her high grass, as well as the striking textures of that building.  On to outfit number three and back to the milkweed field, the waning sun cooperated very well, casting a lovely late afternoon glow on the scene.  We finished the session at the abandoned bridge that gives Bridge Street its name. It was the perfect combination of amazing light and a fantastic model!

This weekend I got to catch up with the Christie family and meet the newest member, Butternut, when we met for their family portraits in one of my favorite locations: Joppa Flats and Plum Island in Newburyport MA.

I was met at the door of their home by Kaitlin and Kami.  Kaitlin was the first baby to take advantage of my “Babies first year” package, and boy has she grown in the past few years.  Kami was equally as sweet, and they couldn’t wait to be in front of the camera!  So we piled into our cars and headed down to Joppa Flats.  I love shooting here, and the girls were natural models.  Their smiles and fun loving personalities were on full display as we shot our way to the beach.  Butternut had joined us for a few photos in the flats, but couldn’t contain her doggie joy when we hit the beach.  It was contageous, as girls and dogs ran around enjoying the unseasonably warm October afternoon.

This week I got to catch up with Brianne & Charles.  It’s been a few years since their amazing Boston Seaport wedding, and their family is about to be just a little bigger.  It was so much fun to spend a couple hours with them in and around their beautiful South End apartment as they prepare for the impending arrival of the newest member of their family!

With the fall sunset coming so early, we began the portraits by taking a walk around their charming Boston neighborhood.  The late afternoon sun was streaming through the streets imparting a warm glow into the as yet unlit gas lanterns, making them appear to glow and casting a halo of warm light on the happy couple.  A block up and we came across a charming little playground, where I’m sure their will spend countless hours with little Amalia in no time at all.  Back at their apartment, we climbed up on their rood deck, where we enjoyed the sunset together.  Then back down to check out the nursery, which is nearly ready to be filled with joyful baby laughter and many happy memories!

Stay tuned in just a few weeks as Amalia makes her modeling debut here on this blog!
