The second half of my double header weekend found me close to home…5 minutes in fact…as I photographed the beautiful wedding of Danielle and Marc at St James Church in Grafton, MA and reception at Blissful Meadows in Uxbridge MA.

I began with Marc and his guys as they got ready at his childhood home in Grafton, then I popped over to hang out with the ladies.  The excitement was high in both houses, as everyone cleaned up and beautified for the big event.  Soon enough the girls were rocking their gowns and kick butt cowboy boots and climbing into the limo for the short drive to the church.  Once there, Danielle’s father escorted her down the aisle and into the waiting arms of Marc.  It was a beautiful mass, with Danielle and Marc beaming through the entire thing.  Those smiles never left their faces they walked down the aisle successfully married!

We headed right to Blissful Meadow, where we wasted no time taking advantage of all of the old farm equipment, climbing on an antique tractor, and recreating a famous Kenny Chesney song.  Wandering the amazing grounds, we took advantage of all of the cool old buildings and lovely gardens before making our way to the rest of the family for photos.  Then it was time to party, with Danielle and Marc starting the celebration right, with an awesomely choreographed country dance that showed off Danielle’s fabulous boots.  With the tone properly set, the rest of the evening was all smiles and laughter, and eating and drinking and dancing.  In short…perfect!

A Melody so sweet, who though only 9 days old, was already being groomed to be an accomplished musician, acrobatic climber, and fearless cat wrangler, when I met her at her Natick home for her newborn photo session.

We started the session in Mom and Dad’s room, where Melody was getting ready for her debut by sleeping until the very last minute.  Actually she was really tired, so after changing into her first outfit and checking out her new bedroom.  We spent a couple of minutes measuring her growth, before she snoozed next to a stuffed lion that was her Mom’s childhood friend.  While she snoozed in her crib, Mom set up a really cool ball pit for her to play in and, after Baxter the cat made sure it was safe, played happily in there for a few minutes.  Lying among all of those balls, reminded her that she was a ping pong master in training, so we headed into the basement, where she showed me her best moves.  The it was up to the cat fortress, where she liked to pretend she was a princess, guarded by a fierce, giant , wild cat!  We ended the session with a little music, the violin was bigger than her, but she grabbed on all the same and gave it her all!

I have been photographing weddings for 14 years now, hundreds and hundreds of best days ever all over the world, but in all those weddings, no one has ever died.  Until this weekend.  Before he had a chance to present the bride and groom as husband and wife, the officiant was MURDERED…and the wedding party was escorted out of the ceremony in handcuffs in front of the stunned guests who had gathered at the Omni Parker House in Boston to witness the nuptials of Alessandra and Kevin.

If this sounds all very dramatic, it fit this couple to a T.  I arrived in proper attire for this 1940’s themed noir wedding, and found all of the bridesmaids being made into starlets from the golden age of Hollywood, with beautiful hairstyles and classic movie star makeup.  Moving up to the bridal suite, we took some time for a fun pinup inspired photoshoot before Alessandra stepped into the beautiful, scarlet accented gown and the role of a lifetime.  Back down to the press room, the ceremony went off without a hitch, with the bride and groom reading their own vows, while the crowd smiled, laughed and cried with them.  Without a hitch, that is, until the officiant suddenly keeled over dead.   Luckily a detective arrived in record time, determined to get to the bottom of the shenanigans, and declaring everyone in the room a suspect.  That’s when the wedding party was led out in cuffs.

Throughout the reception, the intrepid detective worked the case, with the help of the deceased’s twin brother, a reporter from the Boston Globe, and all of the assembled guests (who had clues to the crime at each of their tables).  In between there was time for dancing and toasts, and food and drink and plenty of celebration!  The crowd wasn’t going to let a little thing like a murder get in the way of Alessandra and Kevin’s special day.  By the end of the night, justice was served, the culprit was captured, and Alessandra and Kevin were declared married!  It was a perfect Hollywood wedding with a perfect Hollywood ending!

It was a photoshoot an entire lifetime in the making…and Damon has been practicing his little heart out, charming us with his cuteness since his very first days.  All those lessons paid off!  This was the final session in his Baby’s First Year package, an, while he rocked every one of them, he saved the extra charm for his season finale!

Damon and Dad met me at the front door, and we headed into their apartment to get reacquainted.  It’s been a few months since our last shoot, and Damon had to make sure I was still OK. We put our heads together, and decided that it was too nice a day to be cooped up inside. With that decision made, we grabbed a ball and headed into the back yard. It was so nice in the shade, that we just had to pass the ball around a bit. The whole time, the treehouse was begging us to climb it. So we did. Kicking the ball and climbing the treehouse was hot work. Luckily there was a water feature in the back yard to splash around and cool off in. Unfortunately, this made Damon’s clothes wet, and Mom insisted we go inside for a change. Once we got inside, however, Damon got to hang out in his favorite outfit. In his toy box and in his crib, and hanging out with his favorite, ginormous stuffed monkey. Back outside, we found a present on the porch, and Damon wasted no time ripping it open…delighting in his new toy cars. It’s good to be one year old!

I only had to drive a little bit further up the North Shore for part two of my awesome Saturday shoot-a-rama when I met Sarah and Sebastien on Joppa Flats in Newburyport, MA for a fun photo shoot celebrating their impending bundle of joy.

We met at the Plum Island airport and immediately headed down to the old shack - one of my favorite photo locations.  The light was perfect, and the couple radiant as we braved the high reeds and swampy grasslands to capture the perfect photos.  Shooting and moving was the order of the day, driving a little further into the flats, for a dance in the grassy marsh, climbing up onto the drawbridge, and continuing down the road to the lovely beaches of Plum Island.  The warm sun broke through the haze as we wandered the beach…getting a little too close to the water as the surf rolled in.  Driving back to the airport, we finished off the session at the awesome old hangar.

Stay tuned to meet the newest addition to their family in just a few weeks!

Engagements15 Jun 2017 04:19 pm

This weekend I got to travel to the coastline for two amazing couples in two amazing locations!

First up were Krista and Sean.  They’d suggested Winter Island in Salem MA as a location for their engagement portrait session, and I was blown away by what a cool location it was! All of my favorite ingredients were there from a lighthouse on the coast to a early 21st century hangar, to an old, abandoned, mansion.  And we took advantage of them all!  Starting on the beach, we used the picturesque lighthouse for a traditional New England background.  Moving around the rocky coast and through the earthworks of the Civil War era fort, we took in the beautiful shoreline and antique stone and iron gateways to the underground bunkers.  Moving through the parking lot, we paused at a charming little cottage before making our way around the massive hangar, with its amazing, weather-worn patina.  We saved the best for last, however, making our way to the long abandoned mansion on the hill and using its once expensive textures as a perfect backdrop.

Last week I got to meet (almost) 1 year old Bella, as she debuted her modeling chops in her adorable pink dress at her home in Melrose, MA.

I arrived at snack time, so Mom took a quick minute to top her off, and we headed in to the back yard, where Mom and Dad had prepared a few props for her to show her moves.  And move she did, smiling as she showed off the blocks commemorating her first year, then knocked them over.  Smiling as she crawled her fastest across the grass to take a closer look at my camera, and smiling as she interacted with her favorite parents, as they joyfully tossed her in the air and kissed her rosy cheeks.  All that moving, makes a little one hungry, so back to Mom for second (or was it third?) lunch, before having a bit of cake in the yard and crawling into bed for a nap.  Modeling is exhausting!
