Viyan’s 6 Month Portraits in Boston, MA
Fall is setting in, and with it a little chill in the evening air. It was into this evening air, that I set out with one of my favorite Boston families. Sadly they are moving away, so instead of meeting at their apartment, as we have so many times before, we decided to capture a bit of Boston in Viyan’s 6 month portrait session. And as usual, big brother Ronik, was happy to have a chance to show off as well!
We met on the Public Gardens heading right to the ducks, much to the boys’ amusement. After a brief couple of minutes at the ducks, we were off running…literally. First through the Public Gardens, then down to the Esplanade. Boston graced us wuth a stunning sunset, and we ran around the riverside taking advantage to the amazing light and the multitude of things to climb on, jump off of, run through, and stop and play. We did get to sit for a couple of minutes on the dock, and a piano in the shadow of the hatch shell was begging for us to stop and play it for a few minutes. Through it all the boys were cute as buttons…and hopefully they slept well when Mom and Dad finally got them to bed! Safe travels Anita, Sujit, Ronik, and Viyan!

Hadley’s Portrait Session in Boston’s Back Bay
Last weekend I had the pleasure of reconnecting with a couple whose wedding I photographed a few years ago, and meeting the newest addition to their family - one year old Hadley. Or as I like to think of her…a little ray of sunshine. Smiling is definitely her favorite!
I saw my first ray of a smile not long after I was greeted in to their beautiful Back Bay apartment. Hadley eyed me a little suspiciously for just a minute as I greeted her patents, but she couldn’t keep that smile of hers back, and was beaming at me before I knew it. She could wait to show me all of her books, so we headed into her room, where she went through quite a few of her favorites, paying only to throw me one of those beautiful smiles. I thought we might have broken her smile, when I suggested we plop her in her crib for a photo, but as soon as we cleared up that misunderstanding, it was back as bright as ever. Speaking of bright, it was a beautiful, bright, early fall day out, so we headed down to the park where the sunshine couldn’t compete with her pearly whites gleaming in all of the photos. Especially when Dad played a few minuted of her favorite baby toss game. Back at the homestead, Lucy, her furry best friend got in on the action, engaging her in a friendly game of tug-of-war. She was still beaming just as brightly as I said my goodbyes.

Kelly and Matt’s Wedding at The Estate at Moraine Farm in Beverly MA
As summer draws to a close we have those precious few weeks where warm days turn into slightly cool, comfortable nights. The kind of day where you can look amazing in a wedding dress…and the kind of night where you can dance with abandon and not break a sweat. Such was the day that graced us this weekend when Kelly and Matt tied the knot at The Estate at Moraine Farm in Beverly, MA.
I met Kelly and her bridesmaids in their suite at the Salem Waterfront Hotel, where they were finishing their hair and makeup in their wedding day robes. Before long it was time for them to catch a limo to Moraine farms, where they completed their dressing in the beautiful, historic bridal suite at The Estate at Moraine Farm. Kelly was radiant in her simple but elegant dress as we explored the old stone house, and the beautiful property surrounding it. Once we got her hidden safely away, I had a chance to hang out with Matt and his groomsmen as they got ready in a separate room. As the sun began to set, Kelly and Matt came together under a beautiful flowery bower and pledged their lifelong love to one another in front of a crowd of their closest family and friends. With a kiss that transferred a little too much lipstick onto tough Marine Matt, they sealed the deal and walked hand in hand into the beautiful gardens of the estate. We spent a bit of time exploring the gardens before joining the crowd in the tent, where the band was waiting to help everyone dance and celebrate the happy couple. As the day faded into night, the dance floor was always occupied…first with the couple’s closest friends, toasting their love…then with the rest of the party…dancing the night away!

Christine & Nick’s Engagement Portraits at UMass in Amherst, MA
When I set up an engagement portrait session, I ask the couple to choose a location that has meaning to them. It’s so fun to tie a special place into the photos of a happy in-love couple, and to discover things together that they’d never seen despite years of history. Plus it makes the photos that much more meaningful, being in the place they love the most with the person they love the most. So when I posed the question to Christine and Nick, they immediately chose the UMass Amherst…after all, that’s where they met and fell in love!
We began our session in the very cool, historic, Durfree Conservatory. It may have been built in 1867, but more than a hundred years later, it was providing warmth and tropical greenery to Christine and Nick during the cold, western Massachusetts winters. From there we wandered down to the central pond, a favorite summertime hangout. I was drawn to the unique textures or the Fine Arts building, so we took a little detour around the homage to modern architecture. Then we were on a quest for some of the old bricks, and we found them in an alley that was covered with ivy. With the sun starting to set, we made our way back in the direction of the parking garage, taking a couple of minutes to explore a cool old carriage house, before finishing our session in the garage itself. As I drove off, Christine and Nick stuck around to relive more of their old memories, and make new ones.

Katie & John’s Wedding at Salters Point in Dartmouth, MA
Katie’s family has lived on Salters Point for generations, so it was the obvious choice when choosing a location for their wedding. And the sense of family and community shone through as the entire neighborhood seemed to celebrate their wedding!
To contain all of the celebrants, Katie and John procured three houses, and it was in a lovely seaside neighbor’s home that she and her bridesmaids got ready. The atmosphere was completely relaxed as they made their way through the hair and makeup chairs and into their dresses. With it’s beautiful rustic decor, and wonderful natural light, it was a dream location for bridal portraits, and once we exhausted all of the possibilities inside, the oceanfront back yard provided an even more lovely background. A short hoof up the hill found me at the home where John and his groomsmen were getting ready, inspired by the music of NSync.
One more short walk and we were at the family home, where the guests had gathered in the back yard with it’s beautiful view of the water in the distance. Members of the family played the music as Katie and John got hitched. They walked back up the lawn and got right into a classic convertible that was parked there for that very purpose. “I’m driving”, Katie exclaimed, and John was nice enough to hold her bouquet riding shotgun. We drove down to the beach, where the light continued to be amazing as the newlyweds walked hand in hand through the sand. A few portraits later, and we were ridin’ dirty back up the hill, where the guests were gathered under the tent awaiting the guests of honor to arrive. With a parade wave, Katie greeted them before exiting the car and entering the party!

Aycha & Tom’s Wedding at Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro, MA
Labor day weekend bllomed bright and cleanr. And though people were celebrating all over this great country, I’ll be nobody was celebrating harder then Aycha and Tom…and all their friends and family…as they tied the knot at Vesper Country Club in Tyngsboro, MA
The bridesmaids were all wearing monogrammed robes when I arrived to start documenting the day. They toasted the bride to be, while I photographed the details, then escaped across the hall to the bridal suite to dress in their elegant gowns. Then it was Aycha’s turn, slipping into her beautiful dress while her friends and family helped her with all of the accessories that complimented her perfect look. Downstairs in the lobby, we bumped into Dad, who beamed at his beautiful daughter and kissed her hand, beofre passing her back off for a few photos with the bridesmaids. By this time guests started to arrive, so Aycha escaped up the stairs to make a grand entrance at the ceremony.
And make an entrance she did, escorted by her doting dad down the aisle to her emotional groom. As the sun started on it’s way down the horizon, the two made things official before scooting off together on a golf cart that said they were, “Just Married”. I followed on a cart of my own, and we took advantage of the beautiful fading sunlight, and historic bridge while capturing their first portraits as husband and wife. Then it was back to the party…they entered the reception dancing and didn’t stop the entire evening through…except when they snuck away with me for a few romantic evening portraits by the pool :).
