Ryann & Andy’s Wedding at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA
This might be the fastest blog post I’ve ever written, but I’m really excited for Ryann and Andy to see the sneak preview of their wedding photos, and I’m sitting in the airport with my flight about to be called any minute!
So let me start by saying that Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA was the perfect location for a snowy winter wedding. And Ryann and Andy came prepared for their photo trek outside, donning snowshoes for their portrait session and climbing up on a 4 foot snowbank in front of the house. That was after all of the fun they had with their friends and family as they donned their “real” wedding gear, and before all of the fun that they had with their friends and family getting married, then getting all warmed up inside with the affection of their friends and family, and the hopping music of the band. If I had a little more time, I would entertain you with the tale of Andy bringing down the house with his surprise performance of “Blowers Daughter” for Ryann, or all of the fun that was had at the indoor s’mores station…but they are calling my row, so I’ll have to let the photos do the talking!

Mohini & Ranesh’s One Year Portraits in Waban, MA
This year it has been my distinct pleasure to capture the journey of twins Mohini and Ranesh from their very first days to their first anniversary of life. Along the way we have smiled and played and walked, enjoying the little first time discoveries at each one of their sessions.
For this session, I discovered little Ranesh walking all over the place, while Mohini took the more cautious, but even faster approach on her hands and knees. Given their mobility and their love for exploration, Mom and Dad have wisely divided the house up into gated sanctuaries, and we began with their living room, playing on the shag floor rug that has been featured in so many of their shoots. Then we got to explore their upstairs play room, where Mohini excitedly played with her toys, while Ranesh took a ride on a giant stuffed giraffe, before they both sat together for a portrait on the colorfully festooned daybed. Downstairs again, we paused for a quick outfit change, before the kids got to explore the new (and off limits) sofa in the front living room. One final outfit change, and we finished the session like we started it, with smiles, and movement!

Ryan’s Newborn Portrait Session in Ashland, MA
I don’t know how it happened, but babies love me. I think it must have something to do with my infantile personality and my love for footie pajamas. But whatever the reason, newborn baby Ryan welcomed me with open…eyes…affixing those baby browns of his on my adoring camera the entire session. Well that’s not entirely true. Big sis Ceci got a lot of the eye contact, with a fair amount left over for Mom and Dad!
Young master Ryan was just waking up from a morning nap when I arrived at his Ashland home, and after a quick bite to eat he was up for anything. First posing on the family sofa alone and with his favorite sister, then chilling in his basket bassinet while Ceci proved to be a most excellent lighting assistant. Next we got to visit his new bedroom, where he showed off his styling crib, lounged in his rocker with his most adoring fan of a big sister, and let us know that he really didn’t like hanging out in tiny baskets. A quick cuddle with Mom and Dad solved everything, though, and he was all happy baby again as we wrapped the shoot…just in time for his second morning nap!

Sara & Michael’s Wedding at the Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden, VT
New England is so beautiful in the winter…with the crisp blue skies reflected off the snow…everything encased in sparkling hues of white and blue and green. It’s one of my favorite seasons for sure. Unfortunately, all of that winter beauty comes with freezing cold temperatures that cause all but the heartiest of New Englanders prefer to enjoy the view from the comfort of their warm homes. So it’s a rare treat when an adventurous couple decides to brave the elements, and embrace the winter wedding season. But I only needed to spend a few minutes with Sara and Michael on their wedding day to know that the warmth of their feelings for one another warded off the sub freezing temperatures.
From the beginning, Sara and Michael wanted their wedding to be a fun getaway vacation for all of their friends and family, and that’s exactly the atmosphere that I walked into when I entered the rented ski chalet that they’d rented for everyone. With the ladies getting ready on one level and the men on another, there was a buzz of excitement throughout the entire house. It didn’t take everyone long to get ready, and before we knew it, Sara and Michael were greeting each other on the snowy deck in their wedding finery. We’d budgeted a bit of time to wander the lovely property, so we hopped into a car and started to explore, finding beautiful snowy fields, and fuzzy white horses, and warm fires in a hunting lodge motif-ed dining room. Back to the house for a few family photos and we were ready for the main event. As the sun set over the mountains, Sara and Michael along with their friends and family bundled up outside where the happy couple was joined in marriage. After spending some time in the cold, everyone was ready to warm themselves up with some dancing…and that’s what they did. As the sun set and the temperature dropped outside, the gathered crowd of wedding witnesses, danced the night away in celebration of the newly created family.
