Colleen & Tyler’s Engagement Portraits in Gloucester, MA
What do you do if it rains on the day that you have scheduled your engagement portrait session? If you are Colleen and Tyler, you buy an awesome red umbrella! And if you are an intrepid portrait photographer, you thank your lucky stars that your gear is all weatherproof, and get excited about playing in the rain!
Plymouth has special meaning for this couple since Tyler popped the question there just a few weeks ago. And where do you meet someone in Plymouth? The Rock, of course! We started out gazing at the historic stone, then navigated the slippery rocks to the beach below it. From there, we headed across the street to the park where Colleen said “yes” to a lifetime in Tyler’s arms. The arbor was particularly festive, welcoming us into the park with its lights and giant wreath. From there we headed to the little bridge where the proposal happened…their happiness shining out from beneath the umbrella. The rain let up for a second, so we were able to put the umbrella down for a few uncovered photos. When it resumed again, we headed to the shelter of a nearby underpass. We finished up our tour of the park at an old mill as the late afternoon light was fading.

Brianne & Charles’ Wedding at the Seaport Hotel in Boston, MA
Guess what I was doing on Tuesday night while you were at home watching the voice and eating chicken parm? I was in beautiful Boston MA, at the elegant Seaport Hotel, with the amazing Brianne and Charles, (and a few hundred of their favorite people)…celebrating their wedding!
Brianne was nearly ready when I arrived at her suite at the Seaport, so it didn’t take long until it was time to head downstairs and meet Charles. Being December, we decided to stay inside for as long as possible, and arranged the first look at the indoor garden next door. At that time of day it was empty, and perfect for the couple’s happy reunion. Back into the seaport, we took advantage of the festive decor, and the cool bar, before finally deciding to brave the elements. Charles and Brianne were real troopers as we braved the artic wind searching for the perfect spots for them to cuddle up for warmth. They succeeded admirably!
Back inside, we met the assembled family for a few more photos, then took a break while the rest of the guests arrived for the ceremony. Then it was showtime, with Brianne and Charles packing a lot of emotion into their 15 minute ceremony. December 2 was Brianne’s Grandparents’ wedding anniversary, and the ceremony both united the new couple, and honored the lifelong commitment of her grandparents. Through lots of smiles and a few tears Charles and Brianne said, I do, and headed down the aisle as husband and wife. And I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the smiles continued throughout the night. Brianne may have been the smiliest bride in the history of brides, and I don’t thing there was a moment the entire evening, where she wasn’t spreading happiness throughout the entire room.

Nicole & John’s Wedding at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA
I don’t know what you guys like to do on your birthday, but I like to send the day doing my favorite things in the world. Eating cake, enjoying the outdoors, and photographing beautiful couples on the happiest day of their lives. And this year I got to do all three when I joined Nicole and John at their wedding celebration at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA.
I was so excited when I drove up to the familiar venue and saw that a fresh snowfall had coated the entire prperty with a blanket of icy beauty. And Nicole came prepared, donning a vintage mink stole in addition to her dress for an outdoor adventure down by the river on the wooded path. But first we needed to hook up with John, which she did in an emotional first look at the bottom of the stairs. As John carried Nicole over the snow to protect her dress and her shoes, mother nature rewarded us with a beautiful sunset over the lazy river bordering the mansion. And we took full advantage of it before meeting the family in the library for their photos together.
Then all that was left was a wedding! And it was just as perfect as the sunset, beginning with the candle lit ceremony in the atrium, continuing to the cocktail hour in the library, and finally moving on to the party, where Nicole and John, and their assembled guests danced and ate and celebrated the night away.
