So here’s what readers of this blog probably don’t know.  When I write a blog post,I usually come up with a catch phrase that describes the shoot, then put in the images, then come back and write the text, expanding on the catchphrase.  The reason I am telling you this is because I wanted to share the catchphrase in today’s blog post about my photo session with the Condon Family in their Reading, MA home.  You ready for it?

“James and the Giant Smile!”

And I’ll bet as you peruse through the photos you will see why.  I don’t think I’ve ever photographed a more smiley baby in my entire child photography career.  From the first moment we met in the kitchen, to the tour of his bedroom and his parents’ to our jaunt outside, his grin never wavered.  He also showed his love for rugby, much to his Dad’s approval.  And his performance as the kid waiting for Santa was perfection.  Needless to say, he made my job really easy!

Engagements19 Nov 2014 01:49 pm

Laura and Carlos wanted their engagement portraits to reflect both their love of great wine, and their love of exploring the outdoors with their beautiful retriever, Darcy.  So it was a no brainer to meet at Nashoba Valley Winery in Bolton MA…a location that fit the bill perfectly!

We met early , while there was still a chill in the air, and the customers were sill sleeping, beginning our session in the back room where all of the wine making magic happens. Amongst the casks of aging vino, Laura and Carlos laughed and danced, and started the portraits off right.  All of the dancing amongst the wine, made the happy couple develop a powerful thirst, so the tasting room was the obvious next location.  Properly fortified, we were ready to face the chilly November morning, and explore the grounds a bit.  We walked through the orchards and vineyard, pausing whenever the mood struck us and we found a cool spot.  Darcy had been waiting patiently with Grandma all of this time, but was super happy when it was her turn in front of the camera.  She graced us by siting super pretty with her family, before enjoying a proper run in an open field.

This weekend I got to catch up with the Sarver family again, and photograph their newest member, 8 month old Rory, for the first time, at their beautiful home in Grafton, MA.

When I arrived, Rory crawled right over to me and threw me the biggest smile, and I thought to myself, “This is gonna be a piece of cake”.  And you know what, that smile didn’t lie.  I followed him into the living room, where big brother, Cian, was catching up on some Saturday morning cartoons.  He quickly lost interest in TV as he took on the job of getting little Rory to smile.  A job that he was particularly good at, as we finished up in the living room and headed up to the boys’ bedrooms.  Next it was Cian’s turn to star in the photos, and after a few years of doing this, he was a pro.  After we’d had fun in both bedrooms, we headed out into the beautiful back yard where there was swinging, and tree climbing and much more smiling to lead us into lunchtime.

It’s that time again.  No, the time of year when everyone starts humming holiday music under their breath.  More important than that…it’s time to catch up with Mohini and Ranesh for their 9 month portrait session!

When we last saw the adorable twins, they were just starting to get around on their hands and knees.  What a difference a few weeks makes.  From their knees to their feet, they are standing at every chance they get.  Well, at least Ranesh is.  That kid can’t wait to walk!  Mom and Dad were looking for holiday photo, and their matching festively checked outfits were just the thing as we made our way through their Waban home.  After a few minutes of playtime on the living room rug, we emptied all of the toys out of the baskets, so the twins could hide inside.  They were delighted.  And since it was warm enough to spend a few minutes outside, that’s where we headed next, nailing the aforementioned holiday card shot in the process (but I promised not to show it here…wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise).  Then it was back inside, but to the twins’ room, where they showed off their most excellent standing skills.  All that standing makes a baby hungry, and lunch was their next destination as I made my exit.

A rainy Saturday is usually not a promising recipe for a great family photo shoot, but when the shoot takes place in a house that, up until recently, the neighborhood kids referred to as haunted, with two kids who couldn’t wait to show me all of its cool nooks and crannies, it’s easy to whip up a great batch of photos!

Young Lincoln wasted no time inviting me to watch the “spooky” Charlie Brown movie with him in the living room.  In the meantime, Vivienne made her entrance in a beautiful red dress quickly stealing the show with her fetching smile.  When the movie ended, the kids were excited to take me upstairs to show me their bedrooms.  Starting in Lincoln’s room, we played with a cool riding turtle, read a book, and popped up out of hampers.  Then into Vivienne’s room, where we checked out how well she could stand up in her crib, and played among the field of flowers painted on the wall.  Our next stop was Mom and Dad’s room, where the all cuddled up on the giant bed.  Back downstairs, I was chased by a dragon and a dinosaur, somehow managing to get the entire family seated for a couple photos, before I fled for my life!
