6 Month Old Jack and Henry’s Portrait Session at Green Hill Park in Worcester MA
My final session of my Memorial Day Weekend portrait marathon found me back in Worcester, catching up with the Hafer family for Jack’s 6 month portrait session.
Historically, we haven’t been very lucky with the weather, so when we found the sun shining, we decided an adventure was in order. So we packed up an headed over to Green Hill Park in Worcester, MA. This is part of Jack’s first year package, so we started with him, while Henry and Dad wandered off to explore the park. Over the hill and through the woods, Jack showed me his smile every chance he got while he played in the grass and the ferns. We caught up with Jack next to the pond, where he was delighted by the schools of fish swimming in plain sight. Reunited, we decided to climb one of the hills and check out the “castle” at the top. We took a rest at the snack shack, where the boys played hide and seek around a tree. But there’s no rest for the weary or photo models, and we finished off the session climbing on the castle-esque wall we’d climbed the hill for and fighting imaginary dragons.

The Conway Family Portraits at Endicott Park in Danvers, MA
My second stop on my Memorial Day Weekend portrait marathon was to Endicott Park in Danvers MA, where I had the opportunity to catch up with the Conway family again as they celebrated young Gavin’s first birthday with an afternoon stroll in the park.
It was my first visit to Endicott Park, but my young tour guides Gavin, and his big sister Ava, wasted no time in showing me around. Our first stop was the barn, where the stalls and paddocks were filled with all manner of farmyard animals. The big house was next, offering an awesome wood shed for Gavin to show off his first smiles. Then we took a walk down by the pond where the shady banks provided relief from the warm sun and a beautiful background to get the family together. We wanted a closer look at the horses, so we walked up the lane, which just happened to be on the way to the playground. Instead we found a secret path which led to a beautiful garden behind a historic manor house. We thoroughly explored the garden, then found the path back to the playground. And this time we were not diverted!

Liz & Jason’s Engagement Portraits on Plum Island
When I first met Liz and Jason, I found out that Jason was a pilot. So when it came time to plan their engagement session I recommended Plum Island…both for the beauty of it’s salt flats, and for it’s cool antique airport. And Liz and Jason fit in just perfectly!
We began the session in the salt flats, Liz and Jason proving their bravery by powering through the swampy ground with nary a complaint. And our efforts were rewardwd with a natural papasan chair that was perfect for a snuggle. After finding our way (mostly) dryly out of the flats, we took a short trip down the road to an abandoned shack that offered us a weather beaten background and a rusty old mailbox as props for our story. Across the street to an abandoned house, and the flats once again made an appearance, their bleak, gray, tones contrasting the warm smiles that Liz and Jason shared. But it was the airport that we were looking forward to, and, after a quick outfit change into elegant clothes that perfectly matched the vintage field, we took full advantage of the hospitality it provided!

Aylin & Ozgur’s Maternity Portraits in Boston, MA
Expecting a baby is always such a happy event, especially when it’s the first baby ;)! And I was so excited when Aylin and Ozgur asked me to document their expectant joy with a portrait session on Boston’s Public Gardens.
Aylin came prepared with many great ideas and a few great props that we wasted no time putting to use. The day was perfect, so we decided to stroll around the garden, pausing for them to cuddle on on a bench overlooking the swan boat pond and reclining near a bed of blooming tulips. Continuing our stroll around the pond, the happy couple crossed the iconic bridge hand in hand, then were serenaded by a street performer. Along our circuit we took advantage of the many nooks and crannies that this historic park has to offer.

The Katz Family Portraits at Arnold Arboretum in Boston, MA
A sunny Sunday is a perfect time to bring your kids to the park, and a perfect time to wander around the park with a friendly neighborhood photographer. And the Katz family decided to do just that, and they chose yours truly to take a jaunt with them around the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, MA.
When we met at the gates, Mom and Dad led the way to the grove of lilacs in full bloom. We played around in the flowers for a while before seeking a shadier spot. It didn’t take long to find a great old bench in the woods where the girls happily posed for a family photo. Back into the double stroller and a short walk later we stumbled upon a dry creek bed which provided a fun place for three-and-a-half year old Victoria to explore while her baby sister Coco watched with admiration. Victoria then hopped on a stump to declare “Ladies and Gentleman…” before running off into a grove of vines. The beautiful foliage in the vines gave us the perfect location to finish the session with the girls running and playing an laughing until it was time to load up the stroller for the ride back to the car.

Maddy’s Bat Mitzvah in Newton Centre, MA
The best part about my job is being invited to capture the most important events in people’s lives. So when I was asked to photograph Madeline’s Bat Mitzvah at Hebrew College in Newton Centre, MA, I jumped at the chance!
I’d never met Maddy, but she greeted me like family with a big smile and a hug. Once I was initiated into the family, we all headed outside to gather everyone together for photos. After we’d worked through the list, Maddy stayed behind for a few extra minutes and posed with her Tallis. By this time the crowd of family and friends had filled the chapel and Maddy was ready for her Mitzvah. And she handled the age old traditions with a poise and grace that belied her age.

Thomas and Nhi’s Engagement Portraits in Newport, RI
On a March evening a few weeks ago, Thomas brought Nhi to a secluded beach on Newport, RI, where he’d prepared the scene with candles. He asked her a very important question, and she said, “Yes”! So when it came time to plan their engagement portraits, newport was the obvious choice. And Thomas and Nhi brought all of the romance with them!
We met at the entrance to Newport’s famous Cliff Walk, where Thomas and Nhi’s s elegant wardrobe choices fit right in with the turn of the century mansions. But I get ahead of myself. Right near the cliff walk entrance a lone tree surrounded by a huge bed of daffodils caught my eye, and Thomas and Nhi wasted no time cuddling up among them. Continuing our walk, we had a chance to climb down onto the namesake cliffs, and enjoy the carefully manicured hedgerows, and even take advantage of a bit of appropriate graffiti. By the time we arrived at an open mansion grounds, Thomas and Nhi were old pros at the modeling thing, and we took full advantage of the carefully maintained estate. But Newport is more than just mansions, so we finished out the session down town, using the cobblestone streets and flowering trees to showcase the happy couple’s blossoming love.

Patricia and Eric’s Wedding at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA
It’s a sure sign that winter is over when wedding season begins again. The 2014 season began for me this weekend, with an amazing even at one of my favorite locations as I celebrated the wedding of Patricia and Eric at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA.
My day began at Patricia’s childhood home in Peabody, MA as she and her bridesmaids were hanging out with the family, eating, celebrating, and getting made up for the big day. Before long everyone had a turn in the chair and we packed up the cars and headed over to Willowdale Estate. Once there the pre celebration continued with the ladies settling into the bridal suite to complete their preparations and get dressed in their wedding attire. With laughter and fun they had soon accomplished the dressing, and were ready for a few photos, before holing up in the suite again waiting for the big event.
Though dark clouds threatened all day, the rain held off for the ceremony, and Patricia and Eric were able to say their “I do’s” in the beautiful Willowdale courtyard. While their friends and family members smiled and cheered, they sealed their marriage with a kiss, and walked down the aisle into the rest of their lives. And as it happens, the rest of their lives began down by the river, with a few stolen moments together for couple photos while their guests enjoyed a cocktail at that manor. When we finished our photo walk, we joined them at the big house, and the party kicked into full swing. There was delicious food, and emotional speeches, and dancing and music, and fresh, homemade chocolate chip cookies!

Mohini & Ranesh’s Three Month Portraits in Waban, MA
They say time flies when you are having fun…and apparently the first year of life is the most fun of all for Mohini and Ranesh because they are already three months old! It seems like just yesterday that they were freshly out of the hospital, and now they are rolling like champs, and holding their heads up high!
I arrived just as their morning naps were ending, and they woke up ready to model! Ranesh was up first, sporting a way too cute Micky Mouse onesie with a matching eared hat. Mohini quickly joined in, modeling a matching Minnie Mouse dress and eager to play on the carpet with her brother. After a romp on the rug then took time for a snuggle on the couch, then changed into their second outfits. We had a little more playtime on the carpet, before finishing up the session in their bedroom.
