Meghan & Mike’s Wedding at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA
Part two of this weekend’s fall double header found me back at Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, MA. Willowdale is one of my absolutely favorite places to photograph weddings, and was the perfect backdrop for Meghan and Mike’s fun, happy, and beautiful wedding.
Meghan and her entourage arrived at the mansion in a motorcade, and immediately headed up to the bridal suite to begin the tumult of activity that would result in everyone dressed and beautified for the happy occasion. I waded in, camera rolling, to capture the fun…sharing my time between the girls in the bridal suite, and the guys in the groom’s suite. With fun and laughter fueled by the expectation of the day and a couple of bottles of Cristal, everyone was dressed to the nines, and in their places downstairs when Meghan descended the grand staircase to show Mike what a beautiful bride he was about to marry. With everyone gathered around the soon-to-be-wedded couple, we took the opportunity to knock out the family photos, before wandering off together to explore the property with the betrothed.
We made it back just before the guests arrived, and watched their pre-ceremony lemonade greeting from the upstairs windows. When everyone was seated in the courtyard, Mike walked out with his groomsman and awaited Meghan’s arrival down the aisle. He didn’t have long to wait, as she and her dad walked arm-in-arm down the sun warmed walkway. As the sun set over the top of the great house Meghan and Mike tied the knot - literall, in an Irish handfasting ceremony. Still tied together, they walked down the aisle and into the waiting arms of their congratulatory friends and family. Speaking of those congratulatory arms, they kept moving all night long, raising toasts, raising forkfulls of delicious food, and raising the roof as the dancing kicked into full swing!

Nicole and James’ Wedding at The Sturbridge Host Hotel
If the chill in the air is any indication, fall wedding season is here. And I can’t think of a better way to kick off the fall wedding season, than a beautiful sunset wedding on the banks of a lake. Nicole and James’ wedding at the Sturbridge Host Hotel in Sturbridge, MA fit the bill perfectly!
I met Nicole and her bridesmaids in the bridal suite where the awesome afternoon light filtered in as the ladies prepared themselves for the event. It was a flurry of food and fun and fashion, upstairs and downstairs. Since Nicole and James were getting ready in the same hotel, I got to spend time with both of them readying themselves for the important ceremony. As the sun was setting, Nicole made her way down the long grassy aisle to the waiting smile of James. That smile never wavered as they made their lifelong commitment to each other, and kissed in the last light of the day filtering through the gazebo behind them.
Exiting the ceremony, the three of us walked along the waterfront capturing the loving couple in the fading light of the day, before meeting up with the family in the bridal suite for photos. Then it was time to party! The ballroom was filled with folks waiting to congratulate the new family, drink to their new life together, and dance the night away. And they did!

Lia and Chris’s Baby Portraits in Medford, MA
An overload of cuteness was waiting for me when I returned to Marlene and Saki’s house this week. I’d first visited their house on their wedding day three years ago. A lot has happened since then, most importantly the arrival of two year old Lia, and one month old Chris!
When I arrived, Lia was chilling out to a little Sesame Street, while Chris was relaxing in his swing. That all changed quickly, however. Lia’s dad had been coaching her all day, and she was ready to have a starring role in front of the camera. We headed right up to her bedroom, where she coddled in the big, overstuffed, chair with her little brother, and read him her version of “Goodnight Moon”. A few more sisterly cuddles, and Chris went for an outfit change, while Lia had a turn on a precarious basket. Then we headed over to Chris’ room, where he showed me his favorite chair before deciding to take a short power nap. A few minutes later he was awake and ready to go again, as we finished out the session with a few family photos.

Caitlin & Joe’s Wedding at St Marys in Grafton, MA and Orchard Meadows in Shrewsbury, MA
With all of the pagentry that surrounds weddings these days, it’s easy to forget that at the root of all of the dresses and flowers, and food, and excitement, weddings are a beautiful moment in a family’s life. There was no forgetting that fact at Caitlin and Joe’s amazing wedding in Grafton MA this weekend.
I arrived at Caitlin’s family home as the hair and makeup assembly line was in full swing in the dining room. Even Caitlin and Joe’s young son, Cian, got in on the action with a “Batman” hairstyle of his own. Beautifully styled, everyone headed upstairs to get dressed. We took a few photos around the house, then headed up the street to St Mary’s Church in Grafton, MA. Joe was waiting outside the church doors to greet Caitlin as she arrived in an emotonal moment, before he headed inside to take his place at the front of the sanctuary. With a kiss on her Dad’s cheek for luck, Caitlin walked down the sun dappled aisle, and into the nuptuals - smiling and laughing all throughout the ceremony.
With the important part accomplished, all that was left were the photos and the party! For the photos, we headed just down the street to an abandoned bridge, where the afternoon light and the lush greenery enveloped the happy couple in warmth. Then we ran across the street to a mill that provided a unique industrial backgroud. Hopping into the limo, it was just a couple miles down the road to Orchard Meadows in Shrewsbury, MA, where the repurposed barn was bedecked with the unique vintage touches that the couple hand selected. It was the perfect backdrop for the party that followed, as Caitlin and Joe’s frieds and families celebrated their union well into the night.

Sarah & Chris’ Wedding at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA
Hand selected microbrew beer, a unity chemical reaction, a first dance song by an 80s hair band, and live karaoke throughout the night…that’s a party I’ll accept an invitation to any day of the week! And Saturday night was the perfect night for a party like that at Sarah & Chris’ wedding at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA.
My access to the party began backstage in the green room with the ladies as they grabbed a quick bite of lunch and got dressed for the shindig. It didn’t take long for everyone to be dressed and ready, and we headed down to the main lobby where Chris was waiting to see his not-too-distant-future wife. With the wedding party looking on, Sarah and Chris admired each others wedding wear, before heading outside for some photos outside the hall. With rain threatening, we didn’t stay outside for long, but found somefantastic locations inside to finsish out the session.
The ceremony reflected the awesome personalities of the couple, with the tag teamed reading bringing tears to everyone’s eyes, and the unity eruption eliciting laughter from the assembled audience. It ended as every wedding ceremony should, with a kiss, and they exited the auditorium officially married. A few photos at the front, and we headed downstairs to enjoy the coctail hour with the guests. A little beer and cheese whetted the appetites of the guests for the big party. Back up to the ballroom we headed to await the debut of the happy couple. Alight in the spotlight, they made their entrance and immediately began their first dance. As the strains of the monster ballad seranaded their waltz, I resisted raising my lighter in the air, and looked forward to an amazing night. I was not disappointed!

Andrea’s Creative Headshots at Purgatory Chasm in Sutton, MA
Last week, I got to go to one of my favorite places in Central MA, Purgatory Chasm, with the talented and beautiful professional flutist Andrea LeBlanc from Boston.
We’d been planning the shoot for a few dry weeks prior, but when the shoot day came, Mother nature decided that she should water the central MA area a bit with a few torrential downpours. Nonplussed, Andrea made the drive out here to the central MA area, and we carpooled down to Purgatory Chasm in Sutton, MA. As we pulled into the park, the rain let up, and we were good to go. We began the session on the chasm side of the road, taking a few shots of Andrea in the main chasm. At the mouth of the chasm was a really awesome rock formation with a tree growing out of it, and Andrea was brave enough to climb up for a shot (no small feat in a ball gown)! Then we headed across the street down the trail to a small stone building, that framed Andrea and her flutes perfectly. From the mouth of the building, we could see a clearing that was awash in light, so we made that our second destination. The surrounding woods provided additional backgrounds, with a lush patch of ferns inspiring us for the last pose. We made the trek back up to the car, just in time - as we rode back to my home, the skies opened up once more.
On a side note, Andrea is the wife of Boston wedding videographer, Timothy Bakland. Tim is one of my absolute favorite wedding videographers. I have had the pleasure of working with him numerous times, and we seem have the uncanny ability to seamlessly work together to give the bride and groom great coverage without getting in anyone’s (or each others) way. So when Tim told me that he wanted to gift Andrea with some creative headshots, I was honored and excited to be the person he asked!

Marissa & Jeff’s Wedding at Aldrich Mansion in Warwick, RI
Last weekend I got to meet Joe Black…or at least the rooms that Joe Black wandered through in the movie, as I hung out with Marissa and Jeff at their beautiful wedding at Aldrich Mansion in Warwick Rhode Island.
When I arrived at the Hilton Garden Inn in Warwick, Rhode Island, Marissa and her girls were already in full on fun mode, finishing up their hair and makeup, and their lunches. Before you could say “action”, everyone was ready, and I headed downstairs with Marissa and her Mom for a few bridal portraits in the lobby. We took full advantage of the natural light in the lobby, as we explored all of the nooks and crannies it provided. Once we’d exhausted all of the options at the Hilton, I hopped into my car and headed over to the Aldrich Mansion.
How many houses have their own church? I’d wager not many, but the Aldrich Mansion does…and one of the loveliest I’ve worked to boot. Into this beautiful chapel, Marissa’s Dad escorted her down the aisle and into her new life. The assembled crowd of loved ones faced the newly married couple in the unique pew setup, as Marissa and Jeff walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. After a stop at a great waterfront spot for family photos, I hopped into a car with Marissa and Jeff and headed down to the old boathouse right on the water. The lush greenery surrounding the boathouse merged with the old stone of the walls, and the water of the bay to make a perfect background for their romantic couple’s portraits…and the amazing evening light didn’t hurt either! Back at the mansion, the crowd of celebrants was gathered in the back garden, where Marissa and Jeff were announced in to their first dance. As the final rays of light descended in the evening sky, the happy couple began their new life together with a heck of an elegant party!

Hannah’s Senior Portraits in Boston, MA
Senior year of High School. A time to be top dog, to go to proms and “easy” classes, and plan your future. And, most importantly, a time to get your senior portraits taken! Last week I got to hang out with high school senior, Hannah, on the waterfront of Boston, and learn all about how high school has changed since I was a senior. Apparently, there are no more easy senior classes!
We met at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf, and began our photo session just outside, taking advantage of the oceanside venue, and the lush greenery of Christopher Columbus park. Wanting to get the sun behind us, we walked down Long Wharf to the end, stopping to use the old brick of the Chart House, and the lobster bouys of a marina entrance as a frame for the photos. Ending at the pavilion, we were finally able to get the sun where we wanted it, and the water in the background. From there, we walked a few blocks into the North End, with the old narrow alleys, and unique textures giving us a completely different look. By that point the sun was setting, giving us a beautiful, late afternoon glow, so we headed back to the waterfront, finishing up the session with the days last rays.

Luca’s Newborn Portraits In Waltham, MA
Last week I got to meet the newest little addition to the Sodano family - 10 day old Luca! I first met Luca’s parents when I photographed their wedding a couple of years ago, and it was wonderful to see how their family has grown.
I met the happy new family at their lovely home in Watham, MA. Luca had one of the coolest baby rooms around, so we started our session there. A great vintage trunk was our first stop, Luca showing off his baby modeling chops while playing with a set of heirloom blocks that have been passed down for several generations. Next was a comfy cuddle with a basket of stuffed animals before moving up to his favorite rocking chair for a bit of a snooze. Then we headed out to the family room, where he relaxed on a giant (to a baby) overstuffed armchair. He saved the best for last, however, when he struck the perfect baby pose on a cool trunk that was given to his parents on their wedding day. After all of that hard work, he ended the session with a well deserved cuddle with mom.
