March 2011

Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA is a venue for spectacular shows: concerts, black tie galas, fancy dances…and the spectacularly elegant and eventful wedding of Cassie and Jeff!

Like all big shows, the action began long before the opening act, as the cast readied themselves in the green room. It was there that I met Cassie, her bridesmaids, and a large party of her friends and family sitting in the makeup chairs and getting ready for their starring roles in the evening performance.  Soon their makeup was perfectly applied and their hair was perfectly in place, and it was time for wardrobe.  Elegant black and gold dresses were the order of the evening, complimenting Cassie’s elegant white beaded gown perfectly.  Once dressed we headed into the hall for portraits of the leading lady in all of her finery.

Then it was time for the leading man to arrive…dashing in an elegant black tuxedo.  After a few photos with Jeff and his groomsmen, it was time for the opening act to commence.  The men gathered in a bright window-lit upstairs room for the Tish, while the women gathered downstairs greeting the bride and awaiting the Badecken.  After a few songs, the Moms arrived to break the extra tenacious plate.  With smiles and singing we all headed downstairs for the Badeckin, led by the groom, the Rabbi, and the Dads.

The second act arrived as we all moved into the main hall, beautifully decorated and colorfully lit for the wedding ceremony.  Under the beautiful white-draped Chuppa, Cassie and Jeff exchanged rings and declared their love for one another.  With the glass broken, and cries of Mazel-Tov, they walked out of the hall as husband and wife.  After a few family photos, and a quick break for a bustle and new hair style, we headed outside for a few photos.  Braving the evening chill, Cassie and Jeff were the picture of two people in love as we used some of the unique backdrops that Worcester provided for their portraits.

The third and final act promised to be the most exciting of all, and it didn’t disappoint.  The band was pumping out the crowd pleasing tunes all night and the dance floor remained packed.  It cleared, however for the climax of the show, with Cassie and Jeff owning the floor, and showing everyone who the stars of the show were, with a choreographed number that had the assembled crowd on their feet giving a standing ovation!

March 4th is a fantastic day to get married.  In fact it was March 4th, 2000 that I tied the knot with the love of my life.  So I was extra excited to be photographing Melina & Chad’s wedding on March 4, 2011!

We started the day at the Warwick Radisson, where Melina and the gals were all gathered into Melina’s suite having too much fun and getting made up for the day.  After a few final touches in the makeup chair, Melina was ready for her dress and her bridal debut.  And what a stunning debut it was, between the elegant gown and the jeweled accessories, Melina’s wardrobe was almost as dazzling as her smile.  We didn’t have much time to admire her couture however, as the trolley was downstairs waiting to take us to the wedding.  So after a few quick photos on the way downstairs, we all headed off for the church.

The sun was imparting a late afternoon glow when we arrived at St. Peter’s Church in Warwick, RI, and that glow filtered in through the church windows and bathed Milena & Chad in a soft, golden, light as they happily made their lifetime vows to one another.  The assembled crowd cheered as they walked down the aisle as husband and wife and into the sunset.  And that was when the real fun began!

Loading up on the trolley we headed over to Roger Williams Park.  With the last few minutes of sunset, we took advantage of the beautiful architecture at the Temple to Music.  Then it was down the hill to the carousel, where the beautiful antique horses were chomping at the bit for a ride by the elegant wedding party.  After a few laps, we took advantage of the other unique features of the carousel to capture some fun photos of the newly married couple before heading up to the Casino to join the gathered guests.  And just in time, as the party was getting started awaiting only the arrival of the guests of honor to kick into full gear!
