As fun as it is to photograph a couple’s wedding, it is even more fun to catch up with them a few years later, when their family begins to expand.  So it was a real pleasure to visit Janelle and Jim and meet the newest member of their family, Shannon!

When I arrived at their Woburn home, I was greeting enthusiastically by Marley the dog, and ushered in to see little Shannon.  She was wide awake and making all sorts of cute newborn expressions, so I grabbed my camera and began right away.  She was a natural, staying awake and alert through three changes of clothes, three different rooms, being picked up and sat down, and generally moved around.  We started out in her bedroom, where the elephants on the walls, pillows, and blankets cheered us on.  Then it was into her Christmas outfit, where she was a perfect gift, reclining under the Christmas tree.   The best outfit came last, however, proclaiming Shannon a proper “Irish Baby”!

When I met with Andrea and Bill for the first time we shared stories of all the fun we had each had exploring abandoned and decaying and forgotten places.  So it came as no surprise that they wanted their wedding photos to feature some local ruins.  They’d even scouted out a couple of locations for our photo adventure.

We met at the ruins of a buned out building in Ipswich, where the towering chimneys, old staircase, and creeping vines provided a great starting location.  Since we were a little worried about being run off the place :), we kept one eye on the road for security.  Evading the authorities, we then started back towards Bradley State Park.  As we turned the corner on Asbury Street, I noticed the sun setting over a field, and we made a quick pit stop for a couple of sunset photos.  Then into the park itself, where an old barn was waiting.  Finally we made it up to the Willowdale Estate in Topsfield MA (and also located in Bradley State Park), where the old outbuildings added the final layer of mud to Andrea’s wedding dress.

After all of that fun, it was time for a wedding…except that Andrea and Bill too care of that a few months ago when their families vacationed in Las Vegas to celebrate Andrea’s parents’ 35th wedding anniversary!  So all that was left to do was throw a party to celebrate the wedding!  And what a party it was filled with so many personal touches from the very creative mind of Andrea, from the menus to the guest card table, to the signature cocktails that were so unusual, she had to provide teach the bartenders how to make them!  And Willowdale provided the perfect backdrop for these creative touches to be displayed!  Whether it was the magical effect of the cocktails, or the magical atmosphere of the night, the party was a blast, with the purple rimmed dance floor packed all evening!
