When I used to make the long morning commute into Boston every day, there was a radio station that would frequently play a little ditty that said “There’s just a lot to like about Lowell”.  After hanging out downtown for Lee Ann and Frank’s Engagement Portrait session, I have to agree wholeheartedly!

After a quick coffee at Brew’d Awakening, we headed down Market street, pausing to pose with the various cool remnants of the heyday of Lowell’s manufacturing days that have been carefully preserved and celebrated: a big sign painted on the bricks, a cool little art shop with an “Old World” courtyard, and a turn of the century steam train.  When we came across a cool little shady park populated with a few older Lowell residents feeding bread to their pet pigeons, I had a slightly evil idea…but don’t worry, no actual pigeons were harmed in the making of the photo, and the residents were delighted with the excitement.  And that was only the beginning of the mischief, as Lee Ann, Frank and I explored the old factory buildings down by the river, hopping a couple of fences, and having a lot of fun in the process!

Who doesn’t love being outside on the beach, on a beautiful June afternoon? I got the opportunity to do just that with Julie and Kevin this past weekend, though it took a walk down a 176 step staircase (and back up again) to do it!

We started the day at the Hilton Garden Inn in Plymouth, where Julie and her bridesmaids were keeping their suite cheerful and fun as they rotated in and out of the hair and makeup chairs. When it was time for the girls to get dressed, I took a walk down to Kevin’s room where I hung out with the guys for a bit and drooled over the new iPad that Julie had given Kevin as a wedding gift (turns out he gave her the same gift - unbeknownst to each other :)). Then we headed down to the lobby, where Kevin and Julie saw each other for the first time. After a few photos of the pre-windblown couple, they headed outside where the rocking pink “Party Bus” was waiting to take them to White Cliffs Country Club in Plymouth, MA for the wedding celebration.

It was the perfect day for a wedding at White Cliffs, with the green grass competing with the deep blue, cloudless sky for color richness. It was in a gazebo at the edge of the cliff, under that deep blue sky that Kevin and Julie made their lifelong commitment to one another. After a ceremony filled with many tears of joy, we gathered ourselves together and headed down the 176 steps to the beach for a couple’s portrait session where Kevin used his iPhone and I used my cameras to capture the first few moments of their married life together. Then it was back up all of those steps for the reception filled with great food, awesome music, and fun in the photobooth!

For part two of my double header wedding weekend, I headed to the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston for Samantha and Josh’s elegant wedding.  It was there that I was treated to the sight of the biggest hotel room I have ever seen - 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, an office, dining room, kitchen, and living room, complete with a baby grand piano.  As Samantha exclaimed when we walked in and did the tour of the Presidential suite, “It’s bigger than my house.”

And it made the perfect backdrop for the photos.  We started up in the suite for photos of the girls getting ready, then I headed downstairs to hang out with the guys for a few minutes.  Then it was back upstairs for a couple more photos of the girls getting ready, then back downstairs with the girls for photos in the cool lobby and bar area.  It was on this trip down, that we shared the elevator with former NBA superstar Kenny Smith, who was kind enough to pose for a photo.  After a few photos in the ultra cool, red velvet, champagne lounge Samantha and I headed back up to the Presidential Suite where Josh was waiting to see his bride for the first time.

Then the action really started with family photos, followed by the Tish, then the Ketubah signing, then the larger ceremony, then the cocktail reception, complete with sushi bar (I have a confession to make… I sampled a piece and it was delicious!).  By the time the reception rolled around it was a wonder that Samantha and Josh had any energy left, but they set the stage for the entire evening with an enthusiastic Hora followed by a first dance that would have been at home on Dancing with the Stars.  It set the tone for an entire evening filled with dancing, laughter, and celebration!

Nichole and Bryan’s wedding took place at a quiet little seaside vineyard in Portsmouth, RI.   As crowd of family and friends assembled in the vineyard, the birds sang, sailboats drifted lazily by, and the familiar strains of the oft used wedding song by Metallica accompanied Nichole and her father as they walked down the aisle.  Yep, you read that right!  In addition to the Metallica intro, Nichole and Bryan’s wedding featured a dinosaur wedding cake, a cigar roller, and Chinese food, complete with chop sticks and fortune cookies!

But I’m getting ahead of myself.  We began the day at the Courtyard Marriott in Downtown Providence, where Nichole and her girls were getting ready in a room with a giant bathtub…and as soon as they were all dressed, they jumped in for a photo together!  Then it was down to the really cool lobby, for a few photos, then a revealing moment where Nichole saw Bryan for the first time.  By this time the limo had arrived, so in they all hopped for the drive to the  Greenvale Vineyard in Portsmouth, RI.  And that’s where the Metallica, and the Chinese food, and the creative cake came into play, as the assembled friends and family celebrated their union in a fun and unique way.

My, time flies.  Seems like just a couple of days ago that I was meeting Kaitlyn for the first time for her newborn portrait session.  This weekend we continued our first year series, celebrating three months!

We began by playing on Mom and Dad’s bed, where the lovely natural light in the bedroom brought out the blue in Kaitlyn’s eyes.  Modeling is hard work, so we gave Kaitlyn a swing break, then moved into the bathroom to let her swim with the fishes.  Then it was downstairs to the living room for a little TV time, before heading out to the back yard where she showed us how much of a movie star she really is!

As anyone who has walked the Freedom Trail in Boston knows, the end of the trail leads to a charming little neighborhood just north of Boston known as Charlestown.  Well if we’re being honest, anyone who has really walked the Freedom Trail is cursing life and looking to skip Bunker Hill and take the weight off their feet in one of Charlestown’s Irish Pubs!  But with its combination of gaslights, hidden parks, and colorful old buildings, it makes a perfect background for a romantic stroll.

And that’s exactly what I did with Christine and Patrick last weekend.  We met at the Foodmaster and immediately set out for the cool parts of town.  It wasn’t long before we found a building made of cool old stone surrounded by gaslights.  Then we twisted through a few back alleys, sneaking into a couple of backyards to take advantage of the colorful doors found throughout town.  Finally we marched up Bunker hill and back down again.  Take that, Freedom Trail!
